Vision Board Magic…

Hey loves,

I’m at work listening to One Church LA on YouTube and reflecting on how much has happened in 2016–the over saturation of deaths, crazy politics, and unexplainable antics that make you think that maybe Jesus is about to come scoop you up tomorrow in the gold chariot blasting a “You Name It” remix with St. Peter on the track…lol

It would truly be irresponsible of me to not acknowledge all the positive connections, revelations, sightings, and feels that have invaded this year. I am officially deeming 2016 the year of *drum roll* “The GLO Up”. You don’t believe me? Look in the mirror or scroll through your social media and tell me you don’t see that crustiness of life like you use to. And those challenges you faced all this year, didn’t you learn from them? Don’t you feel stronger now than ever? If you answered yes to any of these questions, my friend you have “glo’d up”!

Yasssssss, that water, self-love, shea butter, and coconut oil regiment you’ve been using is working! “Oooooouu, you betta mind yo’ business and drink yo’ water!”

OK, back to being serious. I have seen a shift in my life once I stayed true to my vision—my goal, my plan, and MY purpose. I saw the universe release its omens to direct me on the right path. I heard God’s still small voice in conversations I had with my elders and peers. All because I wrote, spoke, and believed in what I desperately wanted out of my time here on this Earth. Don’t get me wrong, I had my doubts because it all hadn’t pan out right when I wanted it to. In those moments I learned the virtue of patience, the importance of being prepared, and to trust my instincts.

Let me set the scene to where it all began:

It was probably around New Year’s Day 2014, when I was sitting in my bedroom at my mom’s house cutting out pictures I’d printed out, words from old magazine, and pasting them unto an 8.5×11 piece of pink paper with the phrase “Impact the world through my works, view [the world] through the eyes of others, and to love unconditionally”. I taped it on my wall across from my bed, under a dim light so I could see it before I went to bed and right when I woke up in the morning. This bright neon pink cardstock was dressed with pictures of Big K.R.I.T, J. Cole, Erykah Badu, Steve Harvey, Christian Keyes, UNCG’s Nonprofit Certification logo, the words “grants” and “entrepreneur”, a picture of my book, flags from all the countries that I plan to visit during my life time, and many other wants and needs.

Every morning, I affirmed my dream, my vision, and MY purpose. I would say aloud the words that took place in the center of my mini poster and I would use the action words: I am, I have, I will, and I did, to describe the pictures that traced the edges. I felt crazy! Being in my one-bedroom apartment alone, yelling to the top of my lungs “I am an author, a business owner”, “I will buy my own home and go to (insert country here) and live a debt free life.” Still working on getting this student loan and credit card debt from under me, but using those verbs brought a sense of obligation.

Each day, I felt I had to make it happened. It wasn’t placed in me as a desire just to lay in the crevices of my mind. Who was I to not do what I said I was going to do? (Accountability my friends, today’s word is accountability).

Fast forward to now:

Almost everything plus some extra has come to fruition. I met Christian Keyes (Fatha Gawd, if it is in your will let me meet him one more time, but like on a forever basis… lol). Hung out with Nappy Roots, was featured on “The Black Renaissance” blog/newsletter, bought a home, made some concrete business connections, won an award, took some pictures that were outside of my comfort zone, and I am experiencing the true meaning of unconditional love.

But the added bonus to all these things is peace! Peace doesn’t mean your life is full of sunshine and everything goes your way. It means during those times where tears flow uncontrollably, your finances don’t match the dream you have for yourself, and your support system isn’t around; you still feel secure that your vision, your plan, and YOUR purpose will manifest. “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”- Isiah 55:11 ESV

Your vision mission, if you choose to accept it:

As you prepare you magazines and poster boards for your 2017 vision boards, don’t forget to add those things that haven’t fully come to pass. Those desires that you’ve desperately been pleading to happen since you were a child. Trace the brim with action words and say them every day. For about a month, I had a picture of my vision board as my screen saver as a reminder; find somewhere to place your board so that you can see it when you need a boost of motivation. Take heed, life changes and so will your interests and desires—adjust your vision board accordingly. Right now, I have four boards lining the center of my wall in my bedroom that have the same foundation but have included new goals, challenges, and places I want to visit. Most of all, be open to what life has to offer as you embark on the journey to bring your vision forth. Be open to mistakes, because they mean you’re trying; be open to heartbreak, because your true love is waiting for you around the next corner. Be open to death, for it is inevitable but it brings forth the greatest lessons. And in the midst of storms, hold on to peace because it will anchor you until the calmness comes back again.

Remember, there is MAGIC in your vision.

Happy New Year

With love,
